Catholicism, the Mayo Clinic, and the Future of Medicine

Humanum Review recently released an article titled, Catholicism, the Mayo Clinic, and the Future of Medicine by Allen J. Aksamit, Jr.  The focus of the article highlights the changes which have taken place at St. Mary’s Hospital, and definitely gives us some food for thought:

“As healthcare has become more costly, charity care for the poor and disenfranchised, which has been a hallmark of Catholic healthcare, has become more challenging. This, in concert with societal changes and trends toward secular cultural influences, challenges Catholic influence on the practice of medicine at Mayo Clinic. This will have far reaching consequences in dealing with medical decisions and controversies now and in the future.”
